Motera Stadium: 10 salient features of world's largest cricket ground stadium

With amplified security and arrangements in place, the Sardar Vallabhai Petal stadium in Ahmedabad’s Motera is all set to greet US President Donald Trump. The world’s biggest cricket stadium, awaits arrival of the US President who is scheduled to make an adderss to the ‘Namaste Trump’ event alongside PM Modi today.

The US President is travelling to India with a high level delegation for a two day visit and will be accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

‘Namaste Trump’ is the Indian version of ‘Howdy Modi’ and is set to be the crowning moment of the US President’s India visit with both leaders putting on display strong India-US relation.

Here are 10 important features about Motera Stadium:

1) With a seating range of 1,10,000, the stadium will surpass the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground as the biggest stadium in the world. The stadium has been reconstructed after demolishing the old one which had a seating capacity of 49,000. The architest of the new stadium is the Australian firm Populous.

2) While the new Motera stadium is crowned by it’s infrastructural supremacy, the old stadium had seen some historic cricketing moments. Motera is the venue where Sunil Gavaskar broke the 10,000 run mark in Test and Kapil Dev surpassed Richard Hadlee’s feat of most Test wickets.

3) The newly built Motera Stadium houses 75 Air-conditioned Corporate Boxes.

4) The stadium has a club house with 55 rooms, indoor and outdoor games, restaurants, and Olympic size swimming pool, gymnasium, party hall and a 3D projector theatre.

5) The Motera Stadium has food courts and hospitality area in each stand.

6) The stadium also houses a cricket academy and indoor practice pitches.

7) The stadium has pavilions and a hi-tech media box in addition to a field of play with LED lights which is a first for a stadium in India.

8) The parking facility of the stadium is impressive with capacity for 3,000 cars and 10,000 two wheelers making it the biggest parking area within a stadium premises.

9) If you dont want to take a private car, then that will work just fine as the stadium is linked to Ahmedabad metro.

10) The stadium also has a additional cricket ground with smaller pavilion area. It also has facilities for other sports like football, hockey, basketball etc.
