Meghalaya: 13 miners trapped in a 'rat-hole' mine in East Jaintia Hills; NDRF deployed

13 miners still have been trapped underground in the coal mine in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district. However, a rescue operation is underway but due to the heavy flooding, the miners are still trapped.

As per the reports, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed on the spot.

Over 100 personnel have been into action since Friday morning to rescue the people who have been trapped under 320-feet deep mine.

Workers were trying to pump out the water from the large trench that was flooded. As per the sources, the water inside the rat-hole mine is around 70 feet deep.

NDRF team have been searching inside the coal mine and also searching in all accessible areas with the help of boats. Due to the poor visibility inside the mine due to the muddy water, rescue team were facing difficulties for rescue.
