Manipur Violence: I-T Dept officer dragged out of house, killed

An Income Tax Department official was 'dragged out' of his official residence in Imphal and killed during the ongoing violence in Manipur, said the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) Association on May 5.

Letminthang Haokip, who was posted in the city and peacefully carrying out his work, was the victim of this tragic incident.

Condemning the act, the association tweeted, "the dastardly act of violence resulting in the death of Sh. Letminthang Haokip, Tax Assistant in Imphal".

The IRS association expressed solidarity with the deceased public servant's family, stating, "No cause or ideology can justify the killing of an innocent public servant on duty. Our thoughts are with his family in this difficult hour."

The association also shared Haokip’s photo, saying he was “dragged out from his official quarter in Imphal by Meitei miscreants and beaten to death”, PTI quoted.

Indian Revenue Service (IRS) is all-India body of the Income Tax department that undertakes direct tax collection.

Meanwhile, a CRPF CoBRA commando, who was on leave, was shot dead by assailants in his village in Churachandpur district yesterday. Constable Chonkholen Haokip was a part of Delta company of the 204th CoBRA Battalion.

Manipur state has witnessed bloody ethnic rioting for more than 48 hours and several people were injured during the violence. According to a defence spokesperson, a total of 13,000 people were rescued and shifted to safe shelters.
