Manipur: Students burn school after being expelled by authorities for insulting Facebook post

Manipur’s one of the oldest Christian missionary schools in Kakching district was burnt down on Friday. The incident took place after disciplinary action was taken against six students. After filing the case, the police is investigating the matter.

According to ANI report, 10 rooms were destroyed in which two of them had important documents, equipments and files.

As per the school authorities, the students who were expelled conspired with a local organisation are suspected to be behind the incident. "We have been discussing that the cause of the burning down could be a negotiation with a local student organisation as they did not like the correctional measures taken against some students. They wanted the punishment withdrawn," said the Principal.

When one of the six students took to their social media account and allegedly insulted a teacher and malign the school, the action was taken against them, suggests the report. According to NDTV Principal said that actions were taken a week ago but apart from all this, they were allowed to attend the classes.

"This is an act of extremists. A students organisation burnt down a school," claimed Letpao Haokip, a minister in the Manipur government. He said whoever is involved will be punished and he will help in rebuilding the school so that "students do not lose the academic year."

St. Joseph Higher Secondary School has around 1400 students.
