Lt Gen SK Saini to take charge as Vice Chief of Army Staff on 25th January
Lieutenant General SK Saini will take charge as the new vice chief of the Indian Army. He will assume responsibilities on 25th January. Currently, Lt General SK Saini is serving as the Southern Army Commander.
The position of the Vice Chief of Army Staff became vacant after Lt General MM Naravane became the Chief of Army Staff. This was after the completion of General Bipin Rawat’s term as army chief on 31st December.
Lt General SK Saini was commissioned into the jat Regiment in 1981. He commanded his battalion 7 jat, a mountain brigade, a counter insurgency force in Jammu and Kashmir, a corps in western theatre and the Southern Army Command.
SK Saini has been a weapon instructor in the National Security Guard Training Centre, senior directing staff at the National defence College, New Delhi and the Commandant of the Indian Military Academy.
During the time as Southern Army Commander, Lt General SK Saini steered transformation of the Southern Army Command's operational outlook to overwhelm the threats and validation of many new ideas during training sessions.
