'Lord Ram left Sita on doubts,' says Congress MP Hussain Dalwai claiming in all communities women are mistreated

Ahead of the Triple Talaq Bill's 'Agnee Pareeksha' in Rajya Sabha, Congress leader Hussain Dalwai on Friday took note on the sufferings of women in Indian communities it holds. He also compared Indian Muslim women's life suffering from that of Goddess Sita who was abandoned by her husband Lord Rama.

"Women treated unfairly in all communities, not just Muslims, even Hindus, Christians, Sikhs etc. In every society, there is male domination. Even Shree Ram Chandra ji once left Sita ji after doubting her. So we need to change as a whole," Hussain Dalwai told news agency ANI.

Dalwai's remark on Lord Rama and Sita comes at a time when Congress has been a centre of attention over the Triple Talaq Bill which the Rahul Gandhi-led party had opposed in the previous session of Parliament.

''The Modi government is not interested in the welfare of Muslim women. The government's promise of giving more rights to the Muslim women and empowering them is just an eye-wash,'' Dalwai reportedly told Zee News.

While expressing his views on the amended triple talaq bill, Dalwai triggered a controversy by saying, ''Women are being treated unfairly in all communities, not just Muslims, even Hindus, Christians, Sikhs etc. In every society, there is male domination. Even Shree Ram Chandra ji once left Sita ji after doubting her. So we need to change as a whole.''

The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved amendments in the Triple Talaq Bill. Triple Talaq, the much-debated bill was passed in Lok Sabha last year on December 29, a day after the government tabled the bill in the Lower House of Parliament.
