Lok Sabha 2019: Election Commission to announce Lok Sabha polls date at 5 pm today
The Election Commission of India will address a press conference on Sunday where it is expected to announce the dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections at 5 pm. Elections for the 545 Lok Sabha seats are due by May.
Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra will announce the dates at a press conference at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. According to reports, assembly polls dates of four states can announce today. The assembly polls will be held in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Odisha simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections.
However, Opposition parties have questioned Election Commission over the delay in announcing the poll dates. Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel asked the EC whether it was waiting for the Prime Minister's "official" travel programme "to conclude".
