Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal comebacks sharply at Rahul Gandhi over India-China border row
Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal has plunged in the political tug of war between the opposition and the ruling BJP over the ongoing India -China border stand-off with a scathing response to Congress’ Rahul Gandhi.
Jamyang, acting in response to Rahul Gandhi’s tweet asking the Centre to elucidate if the Chinese had taken possession of Indian territory in Ladakh, replied in the affirmative. However, he said, had happened at the time when Congress was in power at the Centre. Starting from 38,000 sq km of Aksai Chin in estern Ladakh captured by China in the 1962 war.
The 34-year-old BJP leader went on to mention three instances over the 12 years when, as claimed by the MP, China had occupied India territory.
“I hope @RahulGandhi and @INCIndia will agree with my reply based on facts and hopefully they won’t try to mislead again,” he tweeted along with his list of territories that had been occupied by China.
The MP from Ladakh had gained popularity in 2019 after his impassioned speech in parliament that emphasized how his constituency had been overlooked for decades by successive government that presided over Jammu and Kashmir. The MP’s speech drew attention to Ladakh, a region that had been banished to the background of most debates over the former states’s special status.
The MP’s counterargument to Rahul Gandhi comes at a time the opposition has added its attack on the central government over some media reports suggesting Chinese Army had entered Indian territory during the ougoing row.
However, Rahul Gandhi continued to attack the government. On Wednesday, he launched an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The Chinese have walked in and taken our territory in Ladakh. Meanwhile The PM is absolutely silent and has vanished from the scene,” he tweeted.
The Congress leader’s latest attack on Wednesay comes even as Chinese troops at the four standoff points in Ladakh have begun de-inducting. A high level meeting is also slated between the two sides to work out the mechanics of scaling down troops on both sides of the Line of Actual Control.
