Kisan Kranti Padyatra: Security beep-up as thousands of farmers march towards capital; Section 144 imposed in east Delhi

Security beefed-up at Delhi-UP border as thousands of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) members are on march 'Kisan Kranti Padyatra' from Haridwar which will reach Delhi today. Following which, to maintain law and order, police has imposed section 144 in the east and northeast Delhi and Ghaziabad.

'Kisan Kranti Padyatra' has been staged by farmers under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union. They're seeking complete loan waiver, lower electricity tariff including other demands. The Delhi Police have also tightened the security at Ghaziabad border. The borders have been sealed and as per IndiaToday reports, farmers will not be allowed to enter Delhi.

"As it has been experienced in the past, during the Kisan Kranti Yatra, a large number of protestors/participants plans to enter in the area of the north-east district from the borders of Delhi-Uttar Pradesh," Atul Kumar Thakur Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) said who will be in force till October 4.

The Delhi Traffic Police has also issued an advisory asking motorists to avoid the Meerut Expressway.

"In view of the large-scale gathering of protestors on the Ghazipur border, the motorists going towards Ghaziabad, Hapur, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Roorkee, Haridwar are advised to avoid the Meerut Expressway (Ghazipur Border) and take alternative routes as per their convenience," the advisory said.
