Kerala: Minor girl dies after mobile phone explodes while playing game
In a tragic incident, an 8-year-old girl lost her life after the mobile phone on which she was playing the video game exploded at her home in Thrissur’s Thiruvilwamala village on April 24. The incident took place at around 10 pm when the deceased and her grandmother were at home, and her parents had not returned from work.
Adithyasree, a Class III student at Christ New Life School at Pattiparambu, was the only child of her parents. Her father, Ashok Kumar, is a former Pazhayannur block panchayat member and her mother, Soumya, is the director of the Service Cooperative Bank, Thiruvilwamala.
According to relatives, Adithyasree was playing video games on the phone by lying on the bed, and had covered herself with a bedsheet. Her grandmother heard an explosion noise, similar to that of a firecracker bursting, and rushed towards the child's room. When the grandmother and neighbors rushed to the room, they saw the minor girl lying in a pool of blood, with her face severely mutilated.
Police reached the spot and sent the child’s body for autopsy.
According to Kunnamkulam ACP T S Sinoj, the postmortem report confirmed that the child lost her life following the injuries caused on her face and chest in the impact of the explosion of the smart phone.
He further said that the deceased’s father purchased the second-hand Redmi Note 5 Pro from a mobile dealer three years back.
Surprisingly, the phone’s external body had suffered only limited damage, even after the explosion.
Forensic experts have taken the mobile phone and other samples for detailed analysis.
Further investigation is underway.
