Karnataka Ex-DGP defends his 'good physique' remark over Nirbhaya's mother says, 'Nothing offensive in my comments'

The former Director general of police, HT Sangliana has landed into controversy after making a shocking remark over Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi's 'good physique.' The Sangliana made this statement during the Nirbhaya Awards 2018 on March 8, in which Asha Devi was the chief guest. However, the ex-DGP has defended himself and says that 'it was just a compliment.

Ex-DGP Mr. Sangliana had commented about Ms. Devi’s physique and said, “When I look at her (Nirbhaya’s mother), her physique is very, very nice. Then how beautiful Nirbhaya could have been.”

The top cop's compliment has given a rise to a controversy and responding to the outrage, Mr. Sangliana told to a leading daily that, “I don’t understand what there is to object to in this. I was just making a compliment and also trying to draw the attention of people about the vulnerability of women, particularly beautiful women.”

Even the top cop has comments about victims surrendering to the rapist if overpowered, has not gone well with the people. However, on the matter, the Sangliana said, “What I meant was that life is more important. This is an advice I have always given.” The ex-DGP further added,  "I consider my statement to be totally within the limit and I feel people are making an issue out of a non-issue.”

Meanwhile, Nirbhaya's mother slammed the top cop over his controversial remarks and said, "It would have been better if he had spoken about our struggle than making a personal remark. It shows that people's mentalities in our society have not changed."
