Karnataka Election Results: BJP on the first, Congress the second and yet all eyes set on JDS
The elections in Karnataka had the eyes of the whole nation set on it. The exit polls predicted a hung house but the situation now seems to have made BJP emerge as the single largest party. Congress has been left red-faced and the Modi wave has swept yet another state of Congress's control. Siddharamaiah has already announced this year's polls being his last elections. He also happens to be the only CM after Devaraj Urs, who led the government from 1972-77 that led a complete tenure of five years.
Indian National Congress had won the 2013 elections in Karnataka and bagged 122 seats. Siddharamaiah came to power with a clear majority, however, this time the fortunes seem to have completely changed for the Congress and BJP is leading the way.
BJP is still falling a little short of the magic mark 112 and Congress is more than 50 seats down compared to the last elections.
BJP seems almost all set to forming the government under their CM candidate B S Yeduiyirappa. Siddaramaiah was with the Janata Dal Secular (JDS) till 2006 when he quit the party after former prime minister of India HD Deve Gowda started to project his son HD Kumaraswamy as his heir.
Siddharmaiah comes from a poor family and belongs to the Kurupa(shepherd) community.
