Kapil Sibal recalls Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s advice to PM Modi after BJP attacks Congress on ‘Rajdharma’

The Congress party has made a response to the government’s advice appealing to avoid moral lectures with a trip back in time—precisely, with a mention of a news conference as a consequence of the 2002 Gujarat riot where former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee instructed Narendra Modi to abide by ‘Rajdharma’. PM Modi was then the chief minister of Gujarat.

Now here's a quick review of what's been happening.

Initially, the Congress asked President Ram Nath Kovind to urge the BJP government to follow its ‘rajdharma’ following the communal violence in the national capital, in which more than 40 people have lost their lives.

Then, on Friday, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, asked the Congress not to preach rajdharma to the government and accused its leader of hypocricy and delivering inflammatory speeches.

Senior Congress leader, Kapil Sibal, couldn’t refrain from hitting back with this on Saturday.

"How can we [preach rajdharma] Mr Minister? When you did not listen to Vajpayee ji in Gujarat, why would you listen to us? Listening, learning and obeying rajdharma [is] not one of your government's strong points!"

The grand old party with great vehemence has criticised the government following the violence in northeast Delhi in recent times. It has called for Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation, submitted a memorandum to the President and blamed the centre of trying to shield its leaders who delivered provocative speeches by transferring the Delhi High Court judge.

Meanwhile, petitions submitted in Delhi High Court have accused the Gandhis of making hate speeches and have demended FIRs against them.
