JNU Violence: Sabarmati Hostel warden resigns for failing to provide security
R Meena, the senior warden of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)'s Sabarmati Hostel on Monday resigned from his post for failing to provide security to the hostel inmates. He has tendered his resignation to the Dean of Students.
In his resignation letter, Meena has stated, "We tried but could not provide security to the hostel."
Meanwhile, JNU Registrar and Pro-Vice Cchnacellot met Delhi Lieutenant Governor, Anil Baijal today and apprised him of the situation, reported news agency, ANI citing government sources.
"Police will talk to students and start collecting evidence. Medical of 35 students is complete, both in AIIMS trauma center and Safdarjung hospitals," ANI reported.
On the other hand, Union Home Minister Amit Shah talked to Delhi LG and requested him to call JNU representatives for discussions. The Home Minister yesterday spoke to Delhi Police chief Amulya Patnaik and ordered an inquiry into the JNU violence.
The Home Ministry has also sought a report from the Delhi Police.
Worth mentioning, violence broke out in JNU on Sunday night after masked men armed with sticks and rods attacked students and faculty members of the varsity and damaged property on the campus, prompting the administration to call in the police which conducted a flag march.
At least 28 people, including JNU Students' Union president Aishe Ghosh, were injured as chaos prevailed on the campus for nearly two hours.
