JNU student Umar Khalid attacked by an unidentified man outside Constitution Club of India in Delhi. As per media reports, he is safe. Khalid was attacked near a tea stall when an unidentified man in white shit. However, he had a narrow escape. The miscreant is on run, pistol recovered.

"There was an event, Umar Khalid accompanied us. We were at a tea stall when a man in a white shirt came, pushed & opened fire at him. Khalid lost his balance, fell down & bullet missed him. We tried to catch the man. He fired aerial shots, pistol slipped off his hands, he fled," says Eyewitness.

This attack on JNU student in a high-security area of the national capital ahead of Independence day trigger-out several questions. The popular JNU student leader was at the venue to attend an event 'Khauff Se Azaadi', to put together by an organisation named 'United Against Hate'.

Fellow JNU student and activist Shehla Rashid is shocked and worried. "Shocking and highly condemnable. I spoke to Umar. He's okay, but we should be very very worried about his safety," she tweeted.

An alleged pro-Afzal Guru event was organished on February 9, 2016, which saw the arrest of three students -- Umar Khalid, Kanhaiya Kumar and Anirban Bhattacharya. Umar has been found guilty of addressing to the group of students in a wrongfully organised event and being engaged in sloganeering. He has been rusticated from JNU.

Umar Khalid had filed a complaint alleging death threats in June.
