INX Media Case: Indrani Mukerjea claims she paid $5M bribe to P Chidambaram and his son
CBI has filed charge Sheet in INX Media case that revealed Indrani Mukerjea had claimed to bribe of US $5 million to former Finance minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram and his son Karti through the offshore payments in Singapore, Mauritius, Bermuda, UK and Switzerland.
The CBI also said that it awaiting the response to its Letters Rogatory sent to these five countries. CBI has filed a charge sheet against four entities and ten people under 120B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery), 471 (signing a forged document as genuine) of Indian Penal Code and Section 9 (taking gratification, for exercise of personal influence with public servant), 13(1)(d) (abusing one's position as a public servant) of 13(2) (public servant who commits criminal misconduct) of Prevention of Corruption Act.
Indrani Mukherjea who is arrested in prison in connection with the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora has turned approver in the case. In an investigation to CBI, she also claimed that she had a meeting with P Chidambaram to discuss the modalities of illegal gratification that held between March/April 2007.
CBI registered a case on May 2017 in the investigation corruption in INX Media Private Limited which had received a foreign investment of 403.07 crores while showing it to 4.62 crores FDI. Violating the provisions of Foreign Exchange Maintenance Act, INX Media illegally invested around 40.91 crores to its sister company IMX News Pvt Ltd from the FDI amount without any approval.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also filed a money laundering case against Chidambaram in 2017 after which Delhi court sent P Chidambaram to custodial interrogation by ED till 24th October. Chidambaram was arrested in a high drama from his Jor Bagh resident on 21st August.
