Indore Temple Stepwell Tragedy: Death toll reaches 35
The tragic incident of the Indore temple stepwell collapse has claimed the lives of 35 people, according to the Indore Collector, Dr. Ilayaraja T.
The search operation for the one person still missing is still underway.
The collapse occurred during a 'hawan' ceremony on the occasion of Ram Navami at the Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal Temple in the Patel Nagar area of Madhya Pradesh's Indore.
Rescue Operations
The 18-hour-long rescue operation began on Thursday around 12:30 pm and continues. A team of 75 army personnel, along with NDRF and SDRF, are working hard to complete the operation.
Out of the total 50 people who were trapped under the debris, 14 were rescued, and two others have been discharged after treatment.
Government Aid
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, spoke to Chouhan and expressed his condolences and concern for the victims.
