Indore shocker: Student sets principal on fire over delay in marksheet

In a shocking incident that has come to light from Madhya Pradesh, An ex-student from Indore's BM College allegedly set his college principal on fire after sprinkling petrol on her on Monday.

The former student, identified as Ashutosh Srivastava was upset over the delay in getting his marksheet and attacked the principal when she was going back home.

Indore Superintendent of Police Bhagwat Singh Virde said that the college principal, 54-year-old Vimukta Sharma, has sustained 90 per cent of burn injuries and is currently not in a condition to record her statement.

The victim ran towards the college building, following which the staff doused the fire and rushed her to a nearby hospital.

The accused also suffered burn injuries to his hands and chest. He made an attempt to commit suicide by jumping into Tinchha Fall but was stopped by a watchman.

The watchmen then took the accused to the police station where he confessed his crimes and said he was upset with the college principal.

In the time of interrogation, the accused revealed that he had given his seventh and eighth semester exams and the result came in July 2022. However, even after requesting several times, the college was not giving him the marksheet.

Infuriated by this, the accused attacked the principal when she was returning home. He had harassed the principal in the past as well. The principal had complained about this at the police station, but no action was taken.

In fact, the accused had earlier attacked a college professor with a knife for which he was arrested.

The police have arrested the accused while further investigation into the matter is underway. The principal is currently in a serious condition.
