IIFA 2018: 'Hindi Medium' producer takes award on behalf of ailing Irrfan Khan
Actor Irrfan Khan, who is currently undergoing Neuroendocrine tumour treatment in London, was given the Best Actor trophy for his role in 'Hindi Medium' at the 19th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards here on Sunday.
The film's producer Dinesh Vijan accepted the honour on behalf of Irrfan from producer Bhushan Kumar and actress Shraddha Kapoor.
Hindi Medium, a joint production of T-Series and Maddock Films, is about parents who do anything to get their children admitted to the best of schools.
The film also featured Pakistani actress Saba Qamar.
Last week, Irrfan penned a heartfelt note on his battle with cancer.
The National Award winning actor wrote about his struggles with the ailment and his journey of recovery in a note published by a leading daily.
"The entire cosmos becomes one at that moment - just PAIN, and pain felt more enormous than GOD," he wrote, adding, "This realisation made me submit, surrender and trust, irrespective of the outcome, irrespective of where this takes me, eight months from now, or four months from now, or two years. The concerns took a back seat and started to fade and kind of went out of my mindspace."
Besides Irrfan, Saket Chaudhary won the Best Director award for 'Hindi Medium'.
The 19th International Indian Film Academy Awards was hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar and actor Riteish Deshmukh.
