IAF Chief Dhanoa on Abhinandan's return: Will fly fighter jet ones he is medically fit

After India and Pakistan de-escalated the tension post the release of IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, Air Force chief B S Dhanoa has stated that he will fly the fighter jet, ones he is medically fit.

In a press conference, Dhanoa was asked about the condition of Abhinandan and when he could return to fly the fighter jets and Air Chief cleared that everything depends on his medical fitness and how fast he recovers.

B S Dhanoa said, “Whether he (Wing Commander #Abhinandan) flies or not depends on his medical fitness. That's why post ejection, he has undergone medical check. Whatever treatment required, will be given. Once we get his medical fitness, he will get into fighter cockpit.”

In the medical test, it was identified that Abhinandan has suffered a rib injury which was allegedly caused by an assault by the local residents and also suffered lower spine injury which could have happened due to his ejection from his MiG 21 Bison which was shot down by Pakistan’s F-16 during an aerial warfare.

BS Dhanoa, while responding to a question wherein it was said that no destruction took place post the air strike, said, “the target has been clearly amplified by FS in his statement. If we plan to hit the target, we hit the target, otherwise why would he (Pak PM) have responded, if we dropped bombs in the jungles why would he respond.”
