Here's how 'godman' Gurmeet Ram Rahim spent his first night in jail

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh had to spend his first night in jail on 25 August after being convicted in a 15-year-old rape cases. A special CBI court in Panchkula, adjoining Chandigarh, found the self-styled Godman guilty of raping two women.

The quantum of punishment in the case will be announced on 28 August. The verdict led to the eruption of violence in Haryana and Punjab in which 30 people have been killed, while 250 are reported to be injured.

It is being told that Gurmeet Ram Rahim was shocked as the CBI judge Jagdeep Singh pronounced him guilty.

The police took Dera chief immediately into the custody after the verdict. If the media reports are to be believed, he was mostly silent during his first night in jail.

He was shifted to a special cell in Rohtak prison, where he was, reportedly, given bottled mineral water. The rape convict chose to remain silent as he didn't talk to anyone.

According to some of the media reports, assistant of Ram Rahim has been allowed to stay with him.
