Here are 5 takeaways from Rahul Gandhi's interaction with university students in Delhi
As the 2019 Lok Sabha election is approaching, the leaders of various political spectrum are gearing up to contest for the polls and today, Congress president Rahul Gandhi addressed students of universities in Delhi.
Starting off his statements with the recent terror attack in Pulwama, Rahul Gandhi was asked about the Martyrs status to be given to Paramilitary forces by a PhD student Shruti Gautam and he said, “Paramilitary forces don’t get martyr’s status when they lay down their lives…If we form the government, we will give the status of martyrs to those paramilitary soldiers who lay down their lives in the line of duty.”
While discussing about the ideological shift in the colleges and universities, in respect to professors and Vice Chancellors, Gandhi said, “Vice Chancellors these days are ideological people from an organisation. They're not concerned with global vision&feelings of students. They're only concerned with their own ideology&want to use India's education system as a weapon. It is an insult to students.”
Reminiscing the past and mentioning about her grand mother’s (Indira Gandhi) murderer Satwant Singh, Gandhi said, “Jab meri daadi ki death hui, mere papa Bengal main the, meri daadi mere liye meri ma se bhi zada thi. Meri dadi ki hatya unki security walon ne ki thi, Satwant Singh ne mujhe badminton sikhaya tha.”
Detailing about the budget alloted by the Government for education, Rahul Gandhi stressed over the point, saying more funds should be allotted.
“More funds need to be allotted for the education budget. There is a steep decline in the education budget than when UPA was in power. When we were in power we opened more than 20-24 universities but since the last five years, only one university has been launched.”
