Heavy rains in Bengaluru, several parts of city witness waterlogging; opposition hits out at Siddaramiah govt
Bengaluru (Karnataka): Heavy rainfall on Monday night led to severe waterlogging in various parts of the city, bringing traffic and daily life to a standstill.
Traffic Snarls Due to Waterlogging
Belanduru Traffic Police reported slow-moving traffic on Outer Ring Road at Ecospace Junction, stretching towards Devarabesanahalli and Bellandur Junction due to heavy waterlogging. Sarjapura Road also saw congestion at Wipro Junction and RBD Layout Junction, frustrating commuters.
Opposition Criticises Congress Government
The opposition took the opportunity to criticise the Congress-led government. Janata Dal Secular (JDS) posted a sarcastic comment on X, mocking the state’s infrastructure. The post read, “Ah, just another day in Bengaluru where Congress government's blunders have turned world-class infrastructure into a mini Venice due to the rains.”
Leader of Opposition Targets Deputy CM
Leader of the Opposition also targeted Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, questioning his priorities as the Bengaluru Development Minister. He accused Shivakumar of focusing on politics rather than addressing the city's infrastructure issues.
Flight Disruptions at Kempegowda Airport
The heavy rainfall didn’t only affect ground traffic. Over 20 flights were delayed, and 4 were diverted to Chennai, including a Thai Lion Air flight from Thailand. The chaos at Kempegowda International Airport added to the city’s woes.
Schools Closed
Due to the incessant downpour, the District Collector issued a holiday order for Anganwadis and schools in Bengaluru City. However, higher education institutions, including degree courses, diplomas, and ITIs, remained open.
More Rains Predicted by IMD
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted more rainfall in Bengaluru over the next two days, advising residents to brace for further weather-related disruptions.
