Haryana poll results: As BJP falls short of magic figure, Amit Shah summons CM ML Khattar
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has requested the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to Delhi, sources said as the ruling party glared at a close contest in the state, contrary to their supposition.
The BJP is spared no effort to maintain its edge as it hung around 43 seats in leads from Harayana’s 90 assembly seats. The Congress led in 28 seats, and was said to be in discussion with JJP’s Dushyant Chautala, to consider the chances of forming the government.
Multiple BJP ministers were behind and the party was far from reaching the Mission 75 target it had cited.
“We will try to introspect why fell short of the target we had set for ourselves," BJP vice president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe told NDTV.
In Haryana, the trends for the BJP would be particularly disconcerting, given that PM Modi upped his campaign in the state ahead of polling on Monday.
The Prime Minister addressed seven rallies in the state of Haryana and focused on areas influenced by Jats, who are a substantial mass of votes in Haryana.
According to the sources the BJP is trying to reach out to Dushyant Chautala using its ally Akali Dal, whose chief Prakash Singh Badal had tried to assemble an alliance of the BJP, Akali Dal and JJP.
Mr Badal has been given the responsibility to negotiate with Dushyant Chautala, said sources.
"These are just leads...the results will take time. The picture will be clearer later," said Naveen Kumar, BJP spokesperson.
"If not this time, we will achieve 'Mission 75' in 2024," he added.
Union Minister Prakash Javadekar asserted that the BJP would stand victorious not just in Maharashtra and Haryana but als Delhi and Jharkhand in 2020.
