GST bill passed in Haryana Assembly

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill was passed in Haryana assembly on Thursday unanimously. The bill was tabled in the Assembly today in a special one-day session of the House.

Expressing hope that the bill will be passed unanimously, state Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu yesterday said the GST would be implemented in the entire country from July 1 and would bring a revolutionary change.

The minister also said that with the implementation of the GST, tax on consumer goods would be reduced which would benefit the consumers, adding that it would build up confidence among the entrepreneurs on the country's economy and also attract large scale foreign investment.

Among other important legislative agenda, the Gurugram University Bill, the Gurugram Metropolitan Authority Bill, and the Haryana Administrative Tribunal Bill were also tabled in the Assembly.

The Haryana State University of Horticulture Sciences (Amendment) Bill and Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University (Amendment and Validation) Bill were also presented in the Assembly.

Earlier, the Rajya Sabha passed four GST Bills without amendments setting the stage for the government for the launch on July 1.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had said that the GST would lead to new tax regime.

The four bills passed on April 6 - the Central GST bill, the Integrated GST bill, the Union Territories GST bill and the compensation law - have already been cleared by the Lok Sabha, where the government enjoys majority.

The GST rates will be discussed by the powerful GST Council on May 18-19.
