Gautam Gambhir hits out at fellow party leader Kapil Mishra for his provocative speech at violence-hit Jaffrabad
Former cricketer turned politician Gautam Gambhir has hit out at Kapil Mishra for his inflammatory speech at the violence-hit Jaffrabad and stated that firm action should be taken against all those who make such remark.
"No matter who the person is, whether he is Kapil Mishra or anyone else and belonging to any party, if he has given any provoking speech then strict action should be taken against him," said Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday. The criticism comes a day after seven people were left dead on Monday.
The BJP MP further stated, "Those who giving provocative speeches, action must be taken against them. If policemen are not safe, one can imagine the state of mind of common people."
Kapil Mishra made an address to a gathering in Jaffrabad on Sunday following which tension escalated in the area and local groups started pelting stones and burning shops.
Kapil Mishra told the crowd that roadways are being obstructed by those against the Citizenship Amendment Act. The BJP leader also gave an ultimatum to Delhi Police demanding that police remove the demonstrators with in three days.
After his speech, protest cropped up in the area. A day ahead of his speech a group of women had started a sit-in at Jaffrabad.
While tension increased rapidly on Sunday, Monday was specifically intense as rival group clashed with each other, a gunman opened fired and arsonist set houses, shops and petrol pumps on fire in the area.
Seven people, including a Delhi Police constable, have lost their lives in the incident.
Police fired tear gas shells and also turned to lathicharge as clash broke out between pro and anti CAA groups.
No less than 11 police personnel, including Deputy Commissioner of Police were injured while trying to calm the protests.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a late night meeting on Monday to review the state of affairs in Delhi.
