Environmentalist RK Pachauri charged in the sexual harassment case at Delhi's Saket court; pleads 'please expedite matter'
A Delhi court in Saket has charged the environmentalist and former director of TERI, RK Pachauri in the sexual harassment case filed against him in 2015.
The Saket Court has has summoned the complainant for 4th and 5th January for cross examination and evidence.
Delhi Police had filed case against RK Pachauri in 2015 on basis of a complaint filed by a former female junior colleague on charges of sexual harassment at work place.
The Delhi court had earlier rejected former TERI director RK Pachauri’s plea that he should be relieved from the case of sexual harassment at workplace against him because the relationship, which was being questioned today, by the lady who had filed the complaint was purely “mutual and consensual.”
The complainant, who was his junior colleague, had said that Pachauri made sexual advances but the environmentalist disregarded the accusations and had said that he sent friendly messages and emails, to which the complainant never opposed or expressed displeasure.
But the court last month, had rejected the claims of Pachauri and ordered to frame charges in the case.
The court had earlier said that “It is an established principle law that at the stage of charge, the court has to sift the evidence only to find out if a prima facie case is made out against the accused.”
Pachauri had earlier argued that “in absence of any expression of her displeasure to any of the act or gestures or words of the accused, her plea of accused having outraged her modesty by touching her, hugging her or kissing her is rendered self-contradictory”
