Election Commission rejects Opposition parties' demands on VVPATs in votes counting process
The Election Commission on Wednesday has refused Opposition' demand to verify VVPAT slips before tje counting of votes on Thursday, reported ANI. The Poll body said it won't make any changes in the votes counting process. It will be go on as planned, the poll body has said.
"The EVM votes verification for five random polling booths in each Lok Sabha constituency - made mandatory by the Supreme Court -- will be done after the counting of votes and not before," the Commission said today.
Around 22 Opposition parties on Tuesday demanded to first verify voter paper trail (VVPAT) slips before counting of votes tomorrow. After which the poll body had asked for time to consider the issue. After a meeting attended by all three Commissioners today, the demand of the Opposition' parties was rejected.
