Elderly widow of ex-army man robbed, killed in Uttarakhand

An 85-year-old widow of an army man was robbed and killed in Uttarakhand’s Tanakpur, police said on March 15.

The district police discovered her body on the Tanakpur-Banbasa national highway yesterday. The crime scene is merely 500 metres away from her house.

According to DSP Avinash Verma, Bhagirathi Devi lived alone in her house in Bichai village after the death of her husband.

Police further informed that an unidentified assailant murdered Bhagirathi Devi and stole her jewellery (4 tolas), which included a nose piece, earrings, and a neck piece.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed grief at the incident and asked police to nab the culprit as soon as possible.

Notably, the area where the elderly widow was killed is part of the CM Dhami’s assembly constituency.

Police have registered a case and a hunt is on to nab the accused.
