Earthquake in J&K: Tremors of magnitude 4.2 felt on Monday, no casualities reported

Ahead of Pulwama tension, an earthquake of magnitude 4.2 on the Richter Scale hit Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. The quake hit the state around 4:25 am and mild tremors were felt at several places across the state.

According to ANI, the quake is believed to be of 10 km depth, the India Metrological Department (IMD)reported. However, no casualties or damage to property has been reported so far.

Recently, a 5.6 magnitude earthquake hit Jammu and Kashmir and lasted several seconds as people ran out of their homes. According to PTI reports, the epicentre of the quake was at a depth of 40 kilometres in northwestern Kashmir, 118 kilometres from Srinagar.

On February 12, a quake measuring 5.1 hit the Bay of Bengal and tremors were felt in Chennai, the US Geological Survey informed.

At present, the situation in the state and across the country has been tensed amid the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama last week in which over 40 CRPF soldiers were martyred. The security in the valley and across the state has been tightened up.
