Dharavi Murder: Father allegedly strangulates 2-year-old son while talking to girlfriend on call
In the latest development in the 2-year-old child’s murder case, police have revealed that his father was on a phone call with his girlfriend while he was strangulating the child to death.
According to police, Rehmat Ali Shaukat Ali Ansari (30) killed his son in order to fulfill his girlfriend, Ajamatun Ansari’s (21) condition to get rid of the child to marry her. The accused called his girlfriend to assure her that he is getting rid of his 2-year-olc child.
The boy’s body was found wrapped inside a plastic bag in mangroves near Mithi river on April 19. On the same day police arrested Rehmat in connection with the case. During interrogation, the accused confessed that he killed his 2-year-old son, Mohammad Asad, as his 21-year-old girlfriend had agreed to marry him only if he “got rid of his wife and son”.
Police said that Rehmat was having an extramarital affair with Ajamatun for the past three years. Ajamatun gave Rehmat an ultimatum of two days to get rid of his wife and child after her family members fixed her marriage on May 3 with someone else.
Police stated that the accused took his son out under the pretext of buying him cheese balls and strangulated him to death at a secluded place in Mahim’s Hyatt Compound, wrapped the body in a plastic sheet and dumped it near Mithi river.
Ajamatun also visited the murder spot to find out if her name was being mentioned by police and people, and to possibly apprise the accused of the situation.
“We have also found that after Rehmat killed his son and dumped the body in the Mithi river. Rehmat fled because people were waiting for him, and they were certain that Rehmat had killed the child as he was seen going out with his son.”
“Ajamatun had also visited the spot, where the body was found, and was trying to ascertain, if her name was being dragged into it. We suspect she later spoke to Rehmat and informed him what was happening,” said a police officer from Shahu Nagar police.
Ajamatun Ansari, a resident of Dharavi’s Kamla Nagar, was arrested for allegedly instigating Rehmat to kill his son.
According to the police, Ansari had also told one of his neighbors that he wanted to get rid of his wife. “This raised suspicions that Rehmat might have killed his son,” said the police officer.
Currently, the police are gathering more evidence in connection with the heinous murder of the child and searching CCTV camera footages from the locality.
Further investigation is underway.
