Democracy has been murdered in Maharashtra: Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha
Wayanad MP and former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday said, I wanted to ask a question in the House but it doesn't make any sense to ask a question right now as democracy has been murdered in Maharashtra.
He made these remarks during Question Hour when Speaker Om Birla told him to ask a supplementary.
"There is no question of asking a question (in Question Hour) today. Democracy has been murdered in Maharashtra," he said.
This apart the Opposition leaders raised the slogan of 'Samvidhan ki hatya bandh karo, bandh karo' during Question Hour in the House, following which the Lok Sabha has been adjourned till noon. The Rajya Sabha has also been adjourned till 2 pm amidst sloganeering by the MPs of the opposition, over the issue of Maharashtra.
On the other hand, Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi led party's protest in Parliament premises over Maharashtra government formation issue.
Meanwhile, the hearing on NCP-Congress-Shiv Sena joint petition is underway in the Supreme Court.

Kapil Sibal is representing Shiv Sena and Abhishek Manu Singhvi is representing Congress-NCP, senior counsel Mukul Rohatgi is representing Maharashtra BJP. The Solicitor General Tushar Mehta present in the courtroom at the Supreme Court.
On Saturday, the petitioners had filed a petition against the decision of Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, inviting BJP's Devendra Fadnavis to form the government in the state on November 23.
They also requested the Supreme Court to order a floor test to be held on Sunday (today) itself. Senior Congress leader and advocate Kapil Sibal appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioners.

At a time when deliberations among Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena on the formation of a non-BJP government in the state had seemingly reached the final stage, the BJP formed the government in a surprise development on Saturday morning when Fadnavis took oath for the second consecutive term as the state Chief Minister, while Ajit Pawar was sworn-in as his deputy. The BJP won 105 seats in the 288-member assembly followed by Shiv Sena 56, NCP 54 and Congress 44.
