Delhi University : All Assamese Students Association welcomes freshers to the 2018 session

The national capital has been the hub of education with some of the best colleges affiliated under Delhi University and youth from the northeast region have over the years left no stone unturned to get through some of the most prestigious colleges to pursue their further studies.

Like every year, the seniors put in all their effort to make the juniors feel at ease away from home.

In line with that the All Assamese Students Association, New Delhi, organised a social meet titled 'Freshtival' 2018 which was highly enjoyed by the freshers in large numbers.

The cultural extravaganza held in the premises of Mavalankar Hall, Constitution Club in the national capital brought to light the rich and vibrant cultural ethos of the northeast.

"Discrimination happens when people aren't aware. We do all these cultural activities and other work and we even work with the Delhi police so that people are aware of our culture and our traditions. It's a different culture from Haryana, Punjab and other states. Our culture is a little different, they should understand that and now they do", said President of All Assamese Students Association, New Delhi, Ranjan Bikash.

Young, lively and high spirited, these students including both freshers and juniors gathered to showcase to the world the effervescent culture of the state of Assam and the Northeast as a whole.

Clad in the traditional attire of 'Mekhela Chador' the freshers not only got an opportunity to showcase their inherent talents, but also had a chance of interacting with their fellow brethren.

While speaking to ANI, Upasana Borgohain, Fresher, Shri Ram College said," This is my first time here in Delhi. I am feeling really good to be part of this program and to be with my own community. I thank the organiser for this event".

"It is really good to be here, I am enjoying Delhi life as I am in here for the first time. I am feeling good now and it's great to be part of this Freshtival and they are making us feel at home", added a fresher from Zakir Hussain College.

Various cultural performances representing the colorful rendition of Assam were showcased by the young boys and girls that left the audience awestruck.

The major highlight of the event was the graceful classical 'Sattriya' dance of Assam by a group of young girls that enlightened the audience of the Vaishnavite culture of Assam.

This dance form has remained a living tradition in Assam's Vaishnava monasteries, known as 'sattras' for over 500 years now. The event was also attended by students from different colleges of Delhi University as well as people from all walks of life.

The event was graced by General Secretary of All Assamese Student Union (AASU) LurinJyoti Gogoi along with few other dignitaries including Debajit Palit, Associate Director of Rural Energy and Development to name a few.

Later, the music band from Delhi 'The Local Train' added an adrenaline rush to the event.

Such a venture by the youngsters brings the youth of Northeast closer, to work for the welfare of the society as well as for the nation.
