Delhi Police arrest cyber-criminal from Jamtara for cheating people with fake customer support
A cyber-criminal has been arrested in Jharkhand’s Jamtara for allegedly cheating people by pretending to offer customer support services for a popular application, Delhi Police said on April 7. The accused has been identified a Dilwar Hussain.
Police have frozen as many as eight bank accounts and also uncovered a money trail of Rs 12 lakh.
The Delhi Police started investigating the case after a victim filed a complaint claiming that Rs 3.20 lakh had been duped from him.
Cyber-crime incidents has been drastically increased in India in recent years and police are continuously urging people to not to share their bank account or any personal details over the phone.
Infamous Jamtara
Jharkhand’s Jamtara is infamous as India’s cyber-crime hub, with several incidents of duping innocent people over the phone linked to the city.
In view of the increasing numbers of cyber-frauds, the police, along with the district administration, started ‘Police ki Pathshala’ (Police’s School) last year to provide quality education and to create awareness about phishing activities. The drive that has been launched in as many as 118 panchayats across libraries also motivates and prepares youths for competitive examinations.
The rampant phishing in Jamtara has also inspired filmmakers to create a web series on these crimes.
