Delhi: Haridwar baba arrested for stalking and harassing a woman devotee
A self-styled godman who is claiming to ‘Naga baba’ of Haridwar has been held on the charges of stalking and harassing a woman “devotee”.
The arrest has been made after the victim registered complaint of receiving threats from him for not responding to his advances. The baba who has been identified as Ravi Giri ji Maharaj is known to the victim as he met devotees at Harihar Ashram, Ramlil Maidan in Kamla Market.
DCP (central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa has confirmed about the arrest.
The accused was in touch with the family of the victim for a few months as he claimed to find suitable grooms for unmarried girls. The accused started visiting the victim’s house after taking details like number and address of her.
The baba started flirting with the woman after sometimes. When she opposed, he started texting abusive and indecent messages on her mobile phone.
The baba was arrested after a making a rigorous plan. As the police got a tip-off that the baba was in Bihar, a team was dispatched to Supaul. But the team failed to nab baba since he had left for Delhi by then. Later, he was finally arrested by local cops near his ashram in Kamla Market. Now, the police is interrogating to find out whether he had harassed other women as well.
The police said the statement of the victim will be recorded before a magistrate.
