CPM MP Md Salim escapes unhurt after bricks pelted at his car in Islampur, claims 'it was TMC goon'
As the polling for second phase is underway across India, incidents of violence have started taking place at some constituencies even after strict vigil by the administration and the election commission officials. CPI(M) MP Mohammad Salim’s car was pelted with bricks in West Bengal’s Islampur today.
The parliamentarian has alleged that the attackers were from the goons from the Trinamool Congress party, who were armed and also threatened the voters inside the booths.
Salim, who escaped narrowly in the attack, has alleged that the TMC goons are on the streets and are not letting the voters relive their right to vote. In his allegations at the Mamata Banerjee led TMC, the MP said that the attackers were a part of the TMC backed cow smuggling gang in the Islampur area.
As per media reports, voters have started protesting outside the polling booth of the Islampur constituency where it is being alleged that the TMC supporters have seized the booth.
New agency ANI tweeted about the situation, “Security personnel lob tear gas shells and lathi charge locals as they block NH-34 in protest after unknown miscreants allegedly prevented them from casting their votes at Digirpar polling booth in Chopra, in Islampur subdivision of North Dinajpur.”
Voting for three seats are underway in West Bengal and the result will be declared on May 23. BJP is eying to penetrate in the Mamata Banerjee’s bastion in this election and it could be a game changer for the polls as TMC has not sided with the Grand Alliance led by Congress as well.
