Coronavirus Update: 21 Indian Navy personnel tested positive for COVID-19

At least 21 Indian Navy personnel in Mumbai have been tested positive for coronavirus. All the infected sailors have been quarantined at a naval hospital in the city. Among these are 20 sailors aboard INS Angre, a shore establishment at Mumbai.

This is the first set of coronavirus that has been reported in the navy. A massive operation has been started to trace how many personnel of the Indian Navy contracted the virus.

According to the reports of India Today, the number of infected Navy personnel could go up as many test results are awaited.

However, the Navy has released the statement that no officer or sailors serving onboard any warship or submarine have been infected.

Most of the cases are asymptomatic and have been traced to a single sailor who was tested positive on April 7.

All the sailors who are tested positive for COVID-19, are now in quarantine INHS Ashwini, a naval hospital in Mumbai.

Navy personnel who have been tested positive for COVID-19 reside in the same accommodation block at INS Angre in Mumbai. The primary contact of the personnel has been tested for coronavirus.

The entire living block was put under quarantine- containment zone and INS Angre too is under lockdown.

Indian Navy made it clear that all the action has been taken as per established COVID-19 protocol.

INS Angre is also known as the Naval Barracks and provides various facilities to all ships and units based at Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra has become the worst-hit state where 3,323 coronavirus cases have been reported so far. While Mumbai is a worst-affected city in the country.
