Coronavirus: All schools, colleges in Uttar Pradesh to remain shut till 22nd March, says Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday stated that all schools and colleges in the state will remain closed till 22nd March. The preventive measure was taken as the number of coronavirus cases in UP reached eleven.

In India, as on 13th March, 75 people have been tested positive for Covid-19. Three of them have been rehabilitated and discharged from hospital.

"All schools, colleges, technical and vocational education institutes in Uttar Pradesh will remain closed till March 22. We will review the situation on March 22 and will take a decision whether to extend it or not," Yogi Adityanath said.

Giving an address to the media, the UP Chief Minister stated that the situation in the state is under control and there is no need for people to feel tizzy. Emphasizing on the significance of awareness and caution. Yogi Adityanath stated that the government is reaching out to people via awareness programmes at schools and community level.

"The situation in Uttar Pradesh is under control. Though we have not declared coronavirus outbreak to be an epidemic yet, but certain special powers under the Epidemic Act have been given to local authorities to handle the situation," he said.

Furnishing details of the cases in UP, the Chief Minister stated that eleven people have tested positive for coronavirus in the state thus far. "Seven of them are from Agra, two from Ghaziabad and one each from Noida and Lucknow. Ten of the 11 patients are being treated at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital," he said.
