Mumbai rainy season brings a tough time for the Mumbaikars and daily commuters. The ‘spirit of Mumbai’ was a trending term on social media in the last rainy season and Mumbaikars appreciated the efforts of Mumbai police for acting as a lifeguard on the roads of Mumbai during heavy rain and roadblocks.
According to the reports of Times of India, Monsoon showered heavily on Mumbai on Monday, during the heavy rain a traffic constable did not move from his place for two-and-a-half hours in the rain. He was not wearing any safety guards and no waterproof gear. He performed his duty while bearing the harsh weather and assured that Mumbaikars could move on the road without any roadblock or collision.
Nandkumar Ingle age 47, a constable in Mumbai Police was performing his duty at Akurli Road, off the Western Express Highway in Kandivali East, the wind was blowing so harsh that it blew up the barricades. “There was no time to don a raincoat. I handed my phone and wallet to the warden and asked him to take cover. Vehicular traffic flow on Akurli Road is heavy and I couldn’t have moved from my position as it would have resulted in chaos on the road,”.
He further added “But then, a tree collapsed, which caused temporary congestion. Pradeep Bhilaye from the Dahisar traffic outpost came to my aid...Both of us stayed back till 11.30pm on the road,". This act of duty was praised by many on social media, he is serving in Mumbai Police from last 23 years.
