CM Bhupesh Baghel: Veer Savarkar proposed two-nation theory, but Jinnah implemented it
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Monday made a claim that Veer Savarkar was the first person to propose for two-nation theory—leading to India and Pakistan but it was Muhammed Ali Jinnah who implemented it.
"Vinayak Damodar Savarkar had put forward the proposal of dividing the country into two parts on religious grounds and his theory was taken forward by Muhammad Ali Jinnah. This is a historical fact and no one can deny it,” Baghel was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Baghel was addressing Congress worker on the occasion of Jawaharlal Nehru’s death anniversary in Raipur. "Savarkar had put forward the proposal of dividing the country into two parts on religious grounds and Jinnah had implemented it. This is a historical fact and no one can deny it," the Congress leader said.
Further adding about the demand of Bharat Ratna for Savarkar, Baghel said, "He had fought for the independence of the country and was put in Andaman and Nicobar jail. Not just once but he apologised repeatedly to Britishers and after coming out of jail he stayed away from the fight for the country's independence. He had thought of two countries, this is also historically true."
Chhattisgarh CM Baghel’s comments come a day ahead of the social reformer’s Veer Savarkar’s birth anniversary. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Prime Minister-elect Modi took to Twitter to pay his tribute to Veer Savarkar.
“We bow to Veer Savarkar on his Jayanti. Veer Savarkar epitomises courage, patriotism and unflinching commitment to a strong India. He inspired many people to devote themselves towards nation building,” PM Modi tweeted.
