CJI Sexual Harassment Case: SC Summons chiefs of CBI, IB, Delhi Police after advocate submits ‘evidence’

The Supreme Court on Wednesday summoned chiefs of CBI director, Delhi Police Commissioner and the Intelligence Bureau chief in the connection with the sexual harassment case against the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi.

'Can you call to our chamber the Director of CBI?' Justice Arun Mishra to Attorney General KK Venugopal.

A three-judge constitutional bench led by Justice Arun Mishra called the chiefs of the three institutions at 12.30pm, saying the deliberations with them will take place inside the judges' chamber.

"SC said it was concerned about contents of affidavit filed by advocate Utsav Bains, who alleged conspiracy against CJI, and wants to meet Director of CBI, Police Commissioner of Delhi, and Director of IB today in chamber at 12.30. Special Bench to assemble at 3 pm again today," ANI reported.

The development comes after advocate Utsav Bains, submitted an 'evidence' in the Supreme Court. "'I have a CCTV footage, which is real evidence. I am submitting this in Court. The accused- mastermind is very powerful,' said Advocate. Bains had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court saying there was larger conspiracy to frame Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.

The Supreme Court bench summoned CBI Director and Intel chiefs to examine issues of judicial corruption and alleged 'conspiracy' to frame CJI Ranjan Gogoi in a sexual harassment case.

"It is not an enquiry. We are meeting these officers in secret. We don't want any evidence to be disclosed," the bench also comprising justices R F Nariman and Deepak Gupta said. The matter relates to the independence of the judiciary in the country, the bench said. Mishra has termed the entire episode as "very disturbing".

The top court perused the report of the SC advocate, which was filed in a sealed cover, about allegations that there are some who manage verdicts.
