Chhattisgarh: 6 BSP jawans, one civillian injured in an IED blast attack by Maoists in Bijapur; gunfight underway
Around 6 six BSF jawans and one civilian were severely injured in an IED blast attack by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur. According to reports, the BSF jawans were returning from election duty when the rebels ambushed them. As per details available, the Maoists triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) at Bijapur Ghatti, in the state’s Bijapur district.
P Sundarraj, DIG, anti-Naxal Operations, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI that four jawans of the Border Security Force 4, one DRG and a civilian were injured in the IED blast. All the injured have been shifted to a hospital in Bijapur.
“4 BSF jawans, one DRG and one civilian injured in IED blast in Bijapur Ghatti (7 km from Bijapur). All injured have been admitted to a hospital in Bijapur. Exchange of fire underway b/w security forces&naxals, the situation under control,” P Sundarraj, DIG-Anti-Naxal Ops said.
A gunfight between the Naxals and security personnel is currently on in the thickly forested area. The situation was reported to be under control.
The fifth assembly elections are underway in Chhattisgarh. The first phase of polling was held on November 12 and voting in the second and last phase is due to take place on November 20. The counting of votes and results will is scheduled on 11 December.
