CBI crisis: Rakesh Asthana, CBI Special Director can't be arrested till November 1, rules Delhi High Court

The Delhi High Court will today hear the plea of Rakesh Asthana, the special director of the CBI who was sent on leave by the government and an FIR was lodged against him by the director Alok Verma.

Asthana was made a prime accuse in the Moin Qureshi bribe case after the director in the FIR lodged against Rakesh, had alleged that the former took brine from the business man to wipe up the case.

The special director of the CBI had earlier written to the Central Vigilance Commission on 24th August with a corruption complaint against the CBI director. The special director also accused the Centre of backing the "corrupt" CBI chief, alleging that he had been victimised for his bonafide actions.

Both the top officers of the premier agency had then moved to the courts and the Supreme Court, with Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi heading the bench, ordered an inquiry into the matter under the CVC within courts jurisdiction and also appointed a retired Supreme Court judge to look into the matter.

Today, the Delhi High Court will look into the matter of the CBI infighting where the agency will be at the responding side, and it will be interesting to see how the case unfolds as, the Supreme Court is already adjudicating the case and can there be any relief for the special director Rakesh Asthana, who is currently on leave.
