CBI Row: Supreme Court issues contempt notice to Prashant Bhushan in case against interim CBI director Nageshwar Rao

The Supreme Court has issued a notice in contempt petitions to senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan over his comments on the case against Nageshwar Rao’s appointment as the interim CBI director.

The notice was issued after petitions filed by Attorney General KK Venugopal and the centre against Bhushan for his comments on the CBI row.

Prashant Bhushan, who was in court, accepted the Supreme Court’s notice and sought three weeks' time to file a reply. The case will be heard again on March 7.

Bhushan and Attorney General KK Venugopal told the top court, had tweeted his accusations against the government.

"He should have applied to get the minutes of the meeting instead. The time has come to put guidelines on whether lawyers can write on a matter that's sub-judice," said Mr Venugopal, who has filed a separate petition on the issue.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said, "The Attorney General is magnanimous. But the Centre wants Bhushan punished as this is not the first instance he has done this."
