CBI crisis: Delhi High Court extends interim relief to special director Rakesh Asthana till November 28
The Delhi High Court has extended the interim relief to the CBI special director Rakesh Asthana till November 28.
Earlier, Alok Verma, the CBI director had filed an FIR against his deputy Rakesh Asthana, who was accused of bribery case in the Moin Qureshi case. Verma had also named other officials of the CBI and R&AW in the FIR.
The government had intervened in the matter at the later stage and sent, both, Asthana and Verma on indefinite leave. Verma approached the Supreme Court against the order by the Ministry of Personnel and Training and asked for a hearing in the matter.
The apex court directed the Central Vigilance Commission to to start an inquiry in the matter, as special director Rakesh Asthana had alleged serious corruption allegations against the director Alok Verma, that he took Rs 3 crore bribe in the Moin Quresh case.
The Supreme Court directed the CVC to complete the inquiry in under two weeks and submit the detailed report by November 12, to which the court extended it to November 16. The court even appointed a retired Supreme Court judge to supervise the inquiry and let not CVC abstain over its ruling.
The Delhi High Court, had then, started giving extension to the special director in the bribery case, from not getting arrested. It is interesting to note that it was Rakesh Asthana, under whose leadership the Special Investigation Team (SIT), in supervision of Supreme Court, had given a clean chit to PM Narendra Modi in the 2002 Gujarat riots case.
