Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau visits Golden Temple, meeting with CM Amarinder Singh on the cards

In a week-long visit to India, the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau accompanied by wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau and three children reached Amritsar this morning and would be meeting chief minister, Captain Amarinder Singh. CM Singh took to Twitter and shared an image of his in helicopter and captioned it “On my way to Amritsar for an one-to-one meeting with Canadian Prime Minister”

This visit followed Mumbai visit where the PM was seen rubbing shoulder with Bollywood celebs like SRK and Aamir Khan.

He was welcomed by the Union minister, Hardeep Singh Puri and Navjot Singh Sidhu at the airport. Immediately after the grand welcome, along with his family, he headed to the Golden Temple to pay obeisance. While the PM wore an off-white kurta and covered his head with an orange scarf, wife wore a salwar suit.

Trudeau family was received by Former deputy chief minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal and his wife. As per the reports, he would meet Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal at the temple. After the temple visit, he would be heading to attend langar (community kitchen of Golden Temple).

As per the sources, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has arranged something very special and interesting for the Canadian PM. They would present a special hand-crafted 24-carat gold-plated portrait of the shrine and a gold-plated 'Siri Sahib' (six-inch sword). This would accompany the robe of honour, 'Siropa' and a shawl.

Preparations by the Punjab government were on in full swing as Trudeau was scheduled to meet Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. On Monday, CM Singh had confirmed that he will meet the Canadian PM today when the latter visits Amritsar and expressed the hope that the meeting would strengthen the "close Indo-Canadian business ties as well as the deep-rooted people-to-people relations."
