BJP-PDP alliance ends: Omar Abdullah agrees to BJP demands, says 'Governor rule should be brought in Jammu and Kashmir'

The BJP has pulled out its alliance with the Mehbooba Mufti's PDP or People's Democratic Party in Jammu and Kashmir. Omar Abdullah agrees to the BJP general secretary and in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir, Ram Madhav's demands of Governor rule in the state.

"I met Governor. I told him that National conference didn't receive mandate to form govt in 2014 & we don't have mandate in 2018 also. We haven't been approached & we aren't approaching anyone," says Omar Abdullah, National Conference.

"I have told Governor that since no party has the mandate to form a government, he will have to impose Governor rule in the state," Omar Abdullah, National Conference said on BJP called off the alliance with PDP in J&K.

The decision came after BJP president Amit Shah met with the party's lawmakers from Jammu and Kashmir in Delhi. In the meet, BJP state chief Ravinder Raina and party general secretary (organisation) Ashok Kaul were also present in the meeting held in New Delhi.

"We also requested the Governor that Governor rule should not remain imposed for a long time period. After all, people have the right to choose their government. Fresh elections should take place & we will accept the mandate of the people," Omar Abdullah added.

According to reports, the rift between the two parties widened following the central government's decision to resume anti-terror operations in the state after Ramzan. 

We have taken a decision, it is untenable for BJP to continue in alliance with PDP in Jammu & Kashmir, hence we are withdrawing, said BJP lawmaker Ram Madhav in a press conference.

On the eve of Eid, senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari was shot dead by terrorists in Srinagar and Indian Army Gunmen Aurangzeb was also abducted and murdered by the terrorists. With it, any faint hope of an extension of the ceasefire ended.

In a series of tweets on Sunday, Union home minister Rajnath Singh announced that security forces have been directed to resume operations.
