Bihar Flood: Boats out on roads as heavy rain continues to batter Patna

Heavy rainfall continues to pummel Bihar where three days of incessant downpour has deluged homes and hospitals, bringing normal life to a halt for many people. Three teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been placed in the city. Boats are also out on roads for rescue operation.

Seven people have died in Bihar, plus four in Patna, as incessant downpour caused flooding in many district in the last few days.

An alert, suggesting probability of heavy to very heavy rainfall has been furnished for the city by the weather department. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall for Patna till 30th September.

Many state hospital including the Nalanda Medical College and Hospital are inundated. Videos posted on the internet showed patients sitting on their beds in flooded rooms. 32 boats have been put to service in flooded areas inorder to evacuate people.

Heavy rainfall have also led to huge traffic jams while rail traffic have also been disrupted, leading to train cancellation and delays. In many parts of the city, residents have also been complaining about power cuts since the last two days.

 

Actor Manoj Bajpayee, who hails from Bihar, manifested worry on Twitter over the situation in the state. "Reports of heavy rainfall and flood like situation coming in from PATNA.hope all of you are safe!!!" he wrote

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday convened a review meet, through video conferencing, with officials and urged immediate relief efforts. Educational institutes to remain closed in the city till Tuesday.
