Big Blow to BJP! Sambit Patra lands in legal soup, warrant issued against him for poll code violation in MP
In a major set back for Bhartiya Janta Party, its national spokesperson Sambit Patra lands in a legal soup after a Bhopal court has issued a warrant (bailable) against him. The warrant was reportedly issued on Thursday accusing him of violating the model code of conduct during the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections.
As per reports in India Today, the warrant has been issued against Patra because he did not appear in court despite a summon for Thursday. The MP Police has also filed a charge sheet against Patra in the case. Along with Patra, BJP leader SS Uppal was also co-accused in the case, who appeared in court and was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 5,000.
Police have reportedly registered a case against Patra and others on a complaint filed by the Election Commission.
What is the complete matter?
On October 27, Sambit Patra held a press conference by the roadside in Bhopal’s MP Nagar area following which the then Opposition Congress filed a complaint against him of violation of the model code of conduct with the poll body.
EC officials in the FIR said that holding a press conference by blocking a road without due permissions was a violation of the poll code.
Organisers of the press conference had sought permission to hold it between 1 pm and 3 pm but held it earlier at 12 noon, which too was a violation, the EC had said.
