Bangladeshis, Rohingyas can give shelter to militants: BJP lawmaker
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Vikram Randhawa on Saturday warned that the continued illegal presence of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas in Jammu and Kashmir creates the potential for them to offer shelter to militants.
Randhawa told ANI that he felt that Bangladeshis and Rohingyas could be behind the terror strike on the army camp in Sunjwan in which two junior commissioned officers were killed and four others, including a civilian, suffered injuries.
"We have been raising the issue of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas living in the surrounding areas of Jammu, illegally. Their number is increasing by the day and, if they are not stopped, they'll act as militant organisation's shelter. This Sunjwan attack may also be connected to them," he said.
Randhawa also called for a detailed investigation into the attack.
Rohingya immigrants fled to India, Bangladesh and Pakistan in the wake of violence and human rights violations committed on them in the Northern Rakhine state of Myanmar.
More than 600,000 Rohingyas are currently languishing in Bangladeshi refugee camps.
